Three Highway Work Methods Recognized by CHCA

Public Date:2023-12-29

Recently, China Highway Construction Association (CHCA) announced the list of new work methods recognized by the organization for year 2023. Three work methods proposed by the company were among the list, namely "Work Method for Reinforced Retaining Wall on Brick Surface of Wrapped Embankment", "Work Method for Underground Continuous Wall Foundation of Bridge", and "Work Method for Chemical Mud Wall Protection in Fine Sand Layer Based on Improved Equipment".

The Work Method for Reinforced Retaining Wall on Brick Surface for Wrapped Embankment is applicable to railway, highway, and other types of road subgrade works, especially for highways or urban road works with weak soil foundations that require preloading reinforcement with limited construction space. By utilizing the technical characteristics of separate construction of wrapping embankment and retaining wall, the retaining wall is constructed after the weak foundation is consolidated. Then, the tension bars embedded during embankment filling are connected to the retaining wall body to form a complete supporting structure. This not only improves construction efficiency, but also saves construction costs.

Construction Method for Underground Continuous Wall Foundation of Bridge: the underground continuous wall foundation is a structural form of foundation composed of underground continuous walls and cap beams, which serves as the main foundation structure of the bridge and bears all vertical loads. The underground continuous wall is composed of multiple T-shaped wall segments, which are designed and arranged according to the load direction of the upper structure of the bridge, improving the overall lateral bending stiffness of the continuous wall.

The Work Method for Chemical Mud Wall Protection in Fine Sand Layer Based on Improved Equipment is applicable to the rapid completion of precipitation wells in areas with saturated fine sand layers, rich groundwater, and pressurized groundwater under heterogeneous geological conditions. The well completion process is improved by combining positive and reverse circulation drilling, installing protective steel pipes for the outer wall of the drill bit, and configuring new chemical wall protection mud. These three improvements have their own advantages and complement each other to overcome the above problems.
