On 3 March, the President of Burundi, Pierre Nkurunziza, attended the ceremony for completion of the Nyavyamo Agricultural Development Project Block A (538.50Ha). The Chinese ambassador to Burundi, the ADB representative, high officials from ministries and other local officials attended the ceremony.

The President delivered a speech at the ceremony to thank the project team for their hard efforts to build the irrigation works aimed for famine relief, and praised the contribution of the Chinese government in improving the people's lives in Burundi. He called China “a good friend of Burundi”.

The contract, funded by Africa Development Fund, was awarded to STECOL in 2014.
